Karla Roberson Man
University of Texas at Austin
B.F.A. in Studio Art 1984

Man’s first commissions  in 1985 consisted of Architectural Renderings of Austin homes. After a move to Houston in 1989, Man worked as a General Illustrator for Baylor College of Medicine. With a goal of establishing her personal client base Man simultaneously pursued free-lance work with individuals and Real Estate Companies.

She eventually was contracted by Martha Turner Properties Real Estate agents to render Illustrations of properties under construction. Also at this time, Man began building her client base for mural and decorative work for interiors. Soon, the free-lance work became full-time.

Beginning in 1990, Man partnered with potter, Jane Rucker, to produce pottery for a chain of Delis based in Houston. Alonti Delis had restaurants in Houston, Dallas and Chicago.

In 1993 Man moved to Amarillo, Texas where she married James H. Man of LeMan’s Toy Soldier Manufacturing.  Sysco Foods contracted Man to complete 350 pieces for their corporate gifts.

In 1994, while executing commission work in Amarillo, Karla’s Italian villa and garden paintings were critiqued by Lowry Simms, curator of 20th Century Art for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Ms. Simms’ positive review established Man’s work as being unique in her ability to paint with the color green in many various shades; a technique artist’s often insecurely steer away from. Her oil on canvas work became her major focus.

1993-1997, Man was hired to design and execute Stage productions for Amarillo Little Theatre. Guys and Dolls, Peter Pan, Once on This Island, Santa, This is your Life, and Beehive. Man was also hired by Oprah Winfrey of Harpo Studios, to paint the sets for her television show while in Amarillo for her controversial lawsuit with the beef industry.

2001-Present, Man creates oil on canvas works reflecting her travels to Italy and the Texas Hill Country. She is contracted to execute renderings and paintings for private clients and for realtors.

She and her husband Jim live in Dallas, Texas.
